Quote Time!

This week I couldn't decided between these two quotes from my favourite actress and role model Audrey Hepburn so I decided to share both with you all.

"Nothing is impossible, the word itself says "I'm possible"

- Audrey Hepburn

"I believe in pink. I believe that laughing is th best calorie burner. I believe in kissing, kissing a lot. I believe in being strong when everything seems to be going wrong. I believe that happy girls are the prettiest girls. I believe that tomorrow is another day and I believe in mircales."

- Audrey Hepburn

Shellac Manicure - Review

All my friends have been raving about Shellac nails, so as an Birthday treat my mum and I decided to get our nails done.

As my local hairdresser (beauty salon) offered shellac discount for the month of March and I was also getting my hair done. To start the nail technician took all my old nail polish off which was a very pretty coral colour and tided up my nails up as all my nails were a different shapes and lengths.

Once my nails were all tidy  the initial clear base coat was put and then dried under a UV dryer (have to admit the heat of the dryer was a little to hot for my hand and I could feel them getting dryer by the second).

When the base coat was applied to both hands and dried, my chosen colour a beautiful turquoise blue was applied, this took three coats to get the bright colour you see here and each time was dried under the dryer.

A fabulous colour shame it chipped

My nails were then wiped clean of any excess gel, what was left felt like a gel like texture with a mirror shine and the best thing about it, it was going to last me 2 weeks. However I was very disappointed as what was promised 14 days without chipping, only lasted 2 days till the first chip appeared when I took a label off a card which was shocking as it should last everyday tasks like this.

Overall I liked the aspect of getting my nails done, was a great girly day with my mum, but I probably won't go back again to have a shellac manicure. As I paid £25 for a manicure that promised to last for about 2 weeks is a bit pricey, as I could buy a colour similar to this and paint my nails myself.

If anyone else has had the same problem as me or can recommend other manicures please leave a comment.

Remington Pearl Curling wand - Review

Pretty summer curls, remind me of when I was younger and my natural cork screw curls, so for the last couple of months I've wanted the curls back so I was very lucky that I received these for my birthday (or the money for them). My hair however now has been straighten so much over the last couple of years I have lost my natural curl (sigh).

I have the Remington pearl straighteners and adore them they get to the perfect temperature without leaving my hair scorched, so I thought I couldn't go wrong in buying the curling wand too.

I've never used a curling wand before, I used to use a curling tong powered by butane gas but my mum stole them back from me when I moved out. But my best friend swears by her curling wand so i thought i'd give it a go as her curls always look so natural and girly.

Included with the wand is a heat proof pouch and heat protector glove (believe me you will need this, if you are a first time user or just very clumsy like me).

On my first attempt of curling, the shorter pieces of hair were harder to curl, and needed longer time on the wand meaning the glove is a must. However as the hair got longer the easier it got to curl.

I did manage to burn my neck twice (which hurt like hell) and it has now left a lovely burn mark on both sides of my neck (least they match) if anyone has any remedies to share to help me burns please leave a comment.

I found initially my hair after being curled resembled a poodle, but a couple of hours the curls had dropped enough for the look I wanted and I was able to spray them with hair spray.

Overall I feel once my hair gets longer (or I get use to using the wand) it will curl and last longer and not resembling a poodle and hopefully i'll be less likely to burn myself (well fingers crossed).

I brought these from Boots, but you can buy them from other stores such as Superdrug and Tesco. I got these for £20 as they had £5 off. Link

My five favourite purchases of the Month!

I'm a little late in posting this (oops). This month I have been buying so many different things from clothes to beauty products but there's too many to share so I decided to share my top five purchases of this month with you.

Clinquie Foundation: I have already posted about this foundation but once again it has been the best buy of this month, even after a couple of weeks my skin after a hard days work of being London still looks fresh like it did that very morning, was the best £20 (or so) I have ever spent.

sorry this is such a small picture - my camera wouldn't take a clear picture

Benefit Blusher -10: This has two shades within it, a light pink for highlighting and bronzer. I decided to go with this blusher as I've been looking for a shade that gives me a healthy glow but not too overpowering like normal bronzers. I can wear this two ways either mix the two shades together and apply to my cheeks or have the two shades seperate the lighter shade being on top giving the highlighted look and the bronzer on the cheek bone defining my cheek and giving off a healthy glow.

As you can see the two tone blusher
Benefit Highlighter: Whats Up - I use to use high beam by Benefit but found this two pale and gave me a washed out look which is never good. But then I came across this, its a perfect colour a nice bronze shade that gives my skin the lift it needs. Plus I love the packaging its so fun.

I had to take to picture from the site as showed a clearer picture of the product

Primark  multi-coloured blazer - I have posted a picture of this already this month but I love this jacket so much it made the top 5 this month. I  can wear this with anything jeans or over a black dress to add a splash of colour to my look.

Look how spring like it is perfect for any occasion

Marc Jacobs Daisy Eau so Fresh Perfume: I haven't worn Marc Jacobs in ages, it was my signature scent when I was 18. So as I turned 21 last week I decided it was time for a new fragrance and Marc Jacobs Eau so Fresh so going to be it and the design of the bottle is so pretty and girlie i had to add it to my collection of other fragrances.

Norwegian Formula Lip Balm SPF 20 - Review

I stumbled across this lip balm as my usual Vaseline had sold out and my lips were in desperate need of moisture and TLC.

I usually wear the rose tinted Vaseline as keeps my lips moisturised but adds a hint of pink. I wear this a lot by itself as its great on causal makeup days (the weekend) or if I need to wear a natural shade.

Yet now the Norwegian Formula lip balm has taken first place in my eyes. It doesn't leave my lips with a tint like the Vaseline but does leave them thoroughly moisturised without the greasy feel they can sometimes leaves and has a nice fragrance to it not like Carmex that has an overpowering smell of cherries. Plus as it comes in a tube and not a container my fingers are left lip balm free.

Overall this is a great little balm for those dry lip days and glides nicely over any lipstick if wanting an extra shine.

I brought mine from my local Boots store but Superdrug also sells this and just a little over £3.

Happy Monday

Quote Time!

It's a little late this week as been busy celebrating my birthday but here is another quote I thought you all may like - I find this to be very true.

'Do dress to balance your moods. Dressing is a form of psychology - use it to self medicate.'
-Richard Nicoll

Vintage!

I am a massive fan of vintage clothes or charity shop bargains and I'm very lucky too have a great town on my door step to find bargains.

One Saturday afternoon my mum and I decided to have a girly catch up over coffee and cake at a lovely little tea room in Rochester.

I then wanted to have a browse around the shops and enjoy the sunny weather we were having. I stumbled across a vintage store called the 44 Store. I decided to take a peek (as the retro bicycle outside wasn't enough to lure me in).

It's a tiny store, filled with clothes, bags and shoes. I was browsing round when I saw a tanned leather 80's vintage Prada handbag tucked behind many other items. I couldn't believe the my eyes when i saw the price tag, £40. The leather just called to me and at such a bargain it would be wrong of me not to purchase this beautiful bag.

I then dragged my mum back into the store so she could take in the wonders and secret treasures of this little shop. That is when I noticed a black velvet coat made by GUESS for £20 - this day was getting better and better. It was in pristine condition.

I have made regular visits now back to the store, however it does vary in what items they have and good items such as mine get snapped up very quickly.

I have been searching for vintage jewellery, however finding something vintage that wasn't going to break the bank was very difficult. Till a friend from work told me about her website called  Curiosities of London Link  that specialises in vintage jewellery.

I am still yet to purchase something but have my eye on a beautiful scarf pin and tiger eye ring - but will have to wait  now till next payday.
